What’s Happening at Hillside

Spotlight On…

Community Events—unnamed-3

It was so much fun to get together with the community at the Marymoor Dog Park meet up. Let’s keep the meet ups coming! Several of you have mentioned wonderful ideas.
Anyone interested in initiating and organizing a meet up for members of the Hillside community is welcome and encouraged to do so.
All you need to do is email Joel (Joel@hillsidesc.org) and Sigrid (Sigrid@hillsidesc.org) the details, including:
  • time
  • date
  • location
  • description
  • your contact information as the point person
Remember to give potential participants enough time to plan on joining, and don’t forget to take photos to share with us to create a buzz for your next meet up!

Halloween Party

When creatures and goblins roam the hall…
When terror touches one and all…
Come if you dare, be you ghost or ghoul—
To party at our spooky school!
That’s right, folks—it’s time for the Annual Hillside Halloween Party! All upper school students are invited. It will be on Saturday, 10/28, from 7:00-10:00 p.m.

Open House

Shake off the early November chill with a warm evening at Hillside! Join us on Thursday, November 2nd for our first Open House of the year—and pass along an invitation to any families who might benefit from joining the Hillside Community. We look forward to connecting with our community and providing a chance to speak with prospective families.

Language Arts teacher (and actress) Brynne Garman has volunteered to lead the fall Poetry Out Loud event for grades 9-12. Interested students should contact Brynne (brynne@hillsidesc.org) as soon as possible. The only entry skills required are the ability to memorize and recite a poem from the Poetry Out Loud website. If enough students are interested, we will host a school competition in December to determine a winner that will advance to local competition in Tacoma in February of 2018. In the past, Brynne’s POL contestants in Kent and Kirkland won both 2nd and 3rd place titles in state competition. She is more than happy to keep Hillside in the winning tradition! All interested students need to contact Brynne no later than October 27, and she will individually coach each contestant during lunchtime during the month of November by appointment.

Europe Trip Deadline—from Kael

Hi, Hillside Families!
If you are planning for your upper school student to participate in the upcoming Hillside Europe Trip, please turn in your first payment of $2000 to Joel by November 3 (with “Europe Trip” in the “for” line) in order to reserve his or her space. The minimum will be 12 students, the maximum 16. If we do not meet the minimum number by November 3, we regret that we will need to cancel the trip.
Contact Jean (jean@hillsidesc.org) with any questions you may have.
We look forward to a wonderful journey next summer!
