But first an announcement and a thank you!

Visiting Fencing Master

Hillside Cavaliers Fencing Club is happy to welcome Wang Yung, as visiting Sabre Fencing Master for the months of May and June.  Starting this coming Monday, April 29, at the Hillside Gym, he will be leading late afternoon and evening group classes, giving private lessons, and supervising open fencing for youth and adults.  These sessions are open to all interested fencers.  The schedule is yet to be arranged.  There is no additional cost for current Hillside Cavaliers to attend open fencing, but new, non-Hillside fencers will be asked to pay a $50 per month membership fee.  Classes and lessons with Wang require further fees, and will be paid directly to him.  USA Fencing Association membership is required of all members of the Hillside Cavaliers for insurance purposes.

Wang Yung is a remarkable coach who conveys subtle, but important, concepts to his students—from young beginners to veteran world champions, from the local and recreational level to the national or international competitive level.  He helps them to understand difficult new ideas and to become capable, confident, creative fencers.  Moreover, he teaches from experience.  He has been a competitive US fencer at a high level for over forty years, consistently qualifies to fence in the Veteran World Championships, and usually wins or finishes in the top three.

To support his presence here, and to build Hillside Cavaliers’ resources, the Teixeiras have generously offered (with additional help from Microsoft) to donate two sets of scoring machines.  This gift will make training and preparation for broader competition much easier, since tournaments are consistently run electrically.  We are exceedingly grateful to them!

HISTORY FEAST
Students in gr. 9-11 arrive at 10am and stay until 10pm
Feast guests arrive at 7pm.

Each year since 1987, the Hillside high school history class has performed a meeting of minds.  This is a dramatic presentation of characters from history that the students have chosen to research.  They tell their life stories, engage in a conversation written by the students, and answer questions from the audience.  Please come for an entertaining and educational evening.

An invitation with details will be sent out separately.
