What’s Happening at Hillside
6/19 Hillside Graduation! Congratulations to our Seniors!
We will celebrate the ceremony in the field behind the gym on Saturday, June 19, at 10:30 am. Space is limited to approximately 50 masked audience members in pods or distanced, and priority is given to the families of graduates and to teachers. Please register in advance with Lizeth (firstname.lastname@example.org). Stay tuned for any updates!
The Hillside staff would like to share our utmost gratitude to all the families of students aged twelve and older who have already pursued Covid-19 vaccination. In addition to a fully vaccinated faculty, the overwhelming majority of Hillside’s eligible students have begun or finished their full vaccination. Thank you for prioritizing your health and the health of our community!
2021-2022 Year Schedule Proposal
Hillside is considering changing the start of Zero Period next year to 8:20 am instead of 8:00 am. This would bump First Period to 9:15 am and end the day at 3:20 pm. Clubs would also end later at 4:50 pm.
In recent years, various studies have indicated that teenagers function better with a later start to the school day. Before COVID, Hillside’s Zero Hour began at 8:00. Following the 2020-21 adjustment to the schedule, we thought that the upcoming year would be a good time to consider broaching a slightly later start. This option is not carved in stone! Please give us your thoughts about this idea by emailing Lizeth.
6/17, 6/18, 6/19, 7:00 pm
Hillside Players perform William Shakespeare’s As You Like It!
Come to this gender-bending show full of love, jealousy, betrayal, comedy, and reconciliation held in the field behind the gym as our woods become the Forest of Arden!
Tickets are limited and will not be available at the door due to audience limitation. Please buy tickets for your preferred evening at Brown Paper Tickets. Seats are limited to 50 masked audience members in pods or distanced. The show will go on, rain or shine. If rain is predicted, bring your umbrellas or raingear. As the exiled Old Duke says about rough living, “These are counsellors that feelingly persuade me what I am.”
Happy birthday to our summer birthdays:
June birthdays: Bravo, Rhosey, Lizeth
July birthdays: Tavish, Paul, Sam, Thomas, Rowan, Wis
August birthdays: Ashton, Joshua, Noah, Megan, Kalan, Karen
Enjoy the beauty of our forest
The students in the Environmental Science course enjoyed the beauty and observed nature in a sit spot on the Hillside property. The forestry elective created art and hung it in the trees
Megan’s Departure – A Note from the Director
Dear Hillside Families,
As some of you may already know, Megan Owen has decided to leave her position at Hillside for personal reasons. We are sad to see her go, but feel very fortunate to have benefited from her many gifts as the 5th and 6th grade humanities teacher during this last year. She has shown insight, wisdom, dedication, talent, and sensitivity, and has supported her students through a challenging time. We hope to stay in touch with her, and she may return as a substitute. We are grateful to her, and will miss her very much!
We thank her and wish her the best!
