What’s Happening at Hillsidegroundhog

Spotlight on…

Open House
Whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not—you can still join us for February’s Open House! Please pass along our invitation to anyone you know who might be interested in our learning environment. Open House runs from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. It would be wonderful to see you there, and families considering Hillside really benefit from the opportunity to talk with current students and parents.

Conferencesconferences
There is no school on 2/10 to accommodate our spring conferences. Based on parental feedback, we are giving you the option of meeting with just your students’ point teachers, or multiple shorter meetings with other teachers as well. The email with the link for the SignUp Genius will go out on Thursday morning.

Climate Change Carnival
On Friday, February 10th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Hillside’s Environmental Science class will be hosting a Climate Change Carnival.   A $10 suggested donation will get you tickets to make purchases at our bake sale and play climate change related games designed by the students, including “Trashketball” and “Greenhouse Dodgeball.”  We also plan to have a recycled art station, so feel free to bring trash and recyclables to add to our collection for art projects.  You will be able to check out your carbon footprint if you come armed with some knowledge: how do you heat your home?  How much money do you spend to heat your home each month?  How much do you drive per week or year?  What’s the average gas mileage for your car? What items do you recycle?  We will finish the evening with presentations on climate change by the students followed by a game of jeopardy to test your new knowledge.  All proceeds will go to a charities fighting climate change.  Join us, and bring your friends!

Drop Off/Pick Upscreen-shot-2017-01-31-at-3-19-22-pm
If you need to pull a U-turn to head away from Hillside, you are too close. Please keep your cars out of the cul-de-sac at Hillside’s entrance. Parent cars in the cul-de-sac can create traffic issues for other parents, increase the amount of cars where students walk, and block teachers from parking. Instead, drop your kids outside of the cul-de-sac and then keep going. Taking a loop in the neighborhood around school is not much, if at all, out of the way. Thank you!
