BIGThanks / Remodeling Update

As you know, Hillside participated in the Seattle GiveBIG in May, raising funds dedicated to refurbishing the spaces at Hillside. Our donations totaled over twelve thousand dollars, which is wonderful—but anyone who has done home improvement projects knows that cost mounts quickly. Your generosity paired with the amazing dedication and innovation of Monique Catino, who served as project manager, netted amazing results! Please read about some of the changes and marvel at the before and after pictures below:

BATHROOMS

A cool coat of “Fresh Dew” paint over the newly stripped and dry-walled bathrooms brings a serene feeling. Updated cabinets and better storage streamlines the spaces. As these are shared areas, this much-needed update will improve everyone’s experience while at Hillside.

KITCHEN

Where we previously saw outdated wooden boards, now we have patched and painted walls making the kitchen seem more spacious. New cabinets and the banishment of cleaning supplies refresh the space. While we are all certain to miss Susan and her round table in the kitchen, it is very exciting to welcome Joel to Hillside with a new kitchen set up, complete with a clear work area for him.

This one you may need to see to believe. What used to look like an old museum of science jumble is now a clean, lab-like space. Five new tall cabinets line the long walls, and a bank of low cabinets with a counter top replace the jumbled tables on the walls with windows.

Additionally, new bookshelves, a new sink, and another whiteboard expand the clarity and usability of the room. This streamlined space will facilitate student engagement and learning.

This amazing transformation is a testament to the power of our community. Your caring via donations of money, time, and effort paired with staff recommendations and Monique’s project savvy demonstrate just what we can achieve. Thank you again, and just imagine what we can do in the future.
