This Summer Learn to Design for the Theatre with Patty Makatura

Patty is excited to teach two camps at Hillside this summer, ‘Drawing and Painting‘ and ‘Theatrical Design.’

“How fun is that? I get to work with kids, share my passion for the things I love to do, and create art. Since I’ve been old enough to hold a crayon, I’ve loved the challenge of trying to tell a story through color and images. Graduating to paints and discovering the magical world of theatre, I later pursued set design. Getting to read great literature, create a design on paper, and then see it come to life on the stage was such a thrill. I look forward to sharing that same excitement w/the campers at Hillside. I now draw and paint on a smaller scale and especially enjoy teaching children the skills to be confident in their own self expression.”

In addition to having worked as a scenic designer and artist throughout Chicago and Seattle, Patty continues to design and paint with her own business, Makatura Murals. She also has participated in a number of solo and group fine art shows, illustrated a children’s book, “Little Lala,” mentored with “Girls Rock” for many seasons, teaches art to children and adults, and continues to seek new skills and inspiration through classes and workshops at Gage Academy and Patrick Howe Gallery. When not holding a brush, or teaching someone else how to use one, Patty can be found climbing a rock, practicing her pirouettes, or hiking in the mountains with Hunny, her beloved Golden.
