December Bulletin – 2011

Leafless trees, chill, wet winds, and early darkness – winter is here!  No matter – our gatherings are all the warmer and our lights shine all the brighter!   We look forward to meeting with you at conferences, and perhaps catching up together at Jean’s Town Hall presentation of ‘A Rogue’s Christmas’.   Read on for details.

All upper school students and graduates are invited to attend Hillside’s festive, annual Yule Ball.  Organized by the students for the students, with preparations headed by seniors Alex Nolan and Riley Miller, this year we will have a masked ball in which students must be masked in order to enter.   Party attire requested – from this century or any other!

Students are allowed to bring one guest each.  In order to attend, each guest must have Hillside’s Guest Waiver signed by the appropriate staff at his or her school and have turned the waiver in to Susan Wedgwood by Monday, December 12.  The Hillside Guest Waiver can be found on the website and is available on the table next to the copy machine in the hall.  Invite your friend, sibling, uncle or romantic interest – just make sure that s/he has the waiver signed and it has been turned in to Susan by Monday, December 12! Here is a link to the Yule Ball guest pass application.
If you have trouble with that link, here is the form in a PDF Verison..

Invitations will be going out to students by early December, including details on signing up to bring a potluck dish.

Come celebrate the beginning of winter vacation with some holiday cheer!

Sunday, December 18:  Short Stories Live! A Rogue’s Christmas

4:00 – 6:00 pm
Great hall; enter on 8th Avenue. $10-$15

Come join Jean Sherrard for an afternoon of delightfully unconventional Christmas stories, poems, and musical cheer—an “antidotal” alternative to the usual holiday fare—which veers between the evocative and the humorous, all delivered by some of Seattle’s favorite professional actors. Frank Corrado, Paul Dorpat, Randy Hoffmeyer, and Jean Sherrard read excerpts from holiday classics including Damon Runyon’s Dancing Dan’s Christmas, in which a trio of hoodlums gives the best Christmas gift ever; John Mortimer’s delightful Rumpole and Father Christmas (the ingenious portly barrister discovers that Santa isn’t quite what he seems); John Cheever’s darkly comic Christmas is a Sad Season for the Poor; and P.G. Wodehouse’s effervescently daffy Another Christmas Carol. Leslie Braly and John Owen provide music. Presented by Town Hall with A Contemporary Theatre; directed by Jean Sherrard.

Advance tickets are $13/$10 Town Hall members, seniors & students, at Brown Paper Tickets or 800-838-3006. $15/$13 at the door. ACT Members call 206-292-7676 to reserve tickets as part of ACTPass and Charter Membership.
